Crazy/Beautiful starring Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez is certainly a teen angst flick, but its a good story with substance and heart.
Before seeing Crazy/Beautiful, I was thinking oh-no... not another teen angst flick. But after seeing it, I wasn't disappointed. It's still a teen angst flick, but it's a good story with substance and touching moments.
Kirsten Dunst plays the very wild Nicole Oakley - daughter of a rich congressman. She's wild and rebellious but all she really wants is for somebody to love her. Nicole's mother killed herself when Nicole was very young. Her relationship with her father is pretty strained. He's remarried and Nicole doesn't get along with her nasty step-mom.
Nicole meets fellow high school student, sexy Carlos Nunez (played by Jay Hernandez), while she's serving community service hours picking up garbage at the beach. Carlos is a poor student who travels two hours on the bus each way to attend a better high school for his education. He's a serious straight-A student who's set his sights on becoming a pilot.
Nicole makes a play for Carlos, and her bad-girl ways distract him from his studies. What starts out as a flirtatious crush turns to true love and they can barely stand to be apart. Nicole's father tells Carlos to stay away from his daughter cuz she's bad news. At first Carlos backs off, but realizes he's in love with her and decides to stick by her.
Crazy/Beautiful is a sexy movie, full of passion, excitement and lots of ups and downs. It's not a movie that'll make you wanna kick up your heels when you leave the theatre - after all it's full of teen angst. But it does have some sweet, light moments. Sure it drags a bit at times, but Kirsten Dunst is great at being crazy. Newcomer, Jay Hernandez is a great leading man. He has looks, talent, and is he ever sexy. Did I mention his looks?
If you want a movie full of chuckles this is not the one for you. But if you want to see a passionate flick with heart-warming moments, then hit the box office for Crazy/Beautiful. Kirsten Dunst is well on her way to becoming the teen "it girl" and after this movie Jay Hernandez won't be hurtin' for work.
