After a year playing for Detroit's farm team in Cincinnati, OH, Sean joined the Red Wings in the 2001-02 season. Sean's toughness was immediately welcomed as he helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in his rookie year. In 2003, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings where he continued his gritty play. In his first season in L.A., Sean led the league in penalty minutes. Although he spent a lot of time in the penalty box, he still managed to improve offensively. Sean Avery Says...
"It's funny, I don't realize I'm not 6'2" or 6'3"; I think I am delusional and feel as big as those guys. It's a good thing that I have that mentality. I can't believe I am only 5-foot-10 and just 195 pounds, so I go at guys and hope for the best."Related Stories:
