The wicked card game of fantasy battles, World of Warcraft, just got bigger with a new set of cards - Through the Dark Portal! It has new cards, new abilities, new combos and even more Starter Decks with new fantasy heroes for you to build decks with! Plus, if you play the World of Warcraft video game, you can uncover new Loot Cards to unlock special items. Here's the 411 with Gary's card game review.
World of Warcraft: Through the Dark Portal - What's New?
There's a fistful of new stuff in this set, including 319 new cards and 18 new heroes to build decks around, including Draenei and Blood Elf heroes! There are also two massive new ally cards - Ivus the Forest Lord and Lokholar the Ice Lord. They're hard to use but can win almost any duel! You can grab Starter Decks, which are perfect for new players, or 15-card booster packs to add more cards to your collection. If you're really lucky, you might even get one of the three Loot Cards that unlock special items in the WoW video game. Here's what you can get.
- Rest and Relaxation - A special picnic blanket for hanging out on.
- King Mukla - A pet gorilla.
- Fortune Telling - An imp that tells fortunes.
World of Warcraft: Through the Dark Portal - What's Hot?
In this set, it rocks to be a Warlock because of all the powerful new cards they get. Undead get a huge boost with a card called Cannibalize that lets them heal a ton of damage by eating all the destroyed creature cards. Ewww!!! Druids get to change into a new Cat form too, which is really cool, even if it isn't that powerful.
World of Warcraft: Through the Dark Portal - What's New?
Unfortunately it's still lame to play Rogue heroes and there aren't many new weapon or armor cards for the fighting heroes. This set also has tons of cards that help you protect yourself, which sounds cool but they really slow the game down. If you want to finish a duel during your lunch break, stick to the original Heroes of Azeroth cards!
World of Warcraft: Through the Dark Portal - Worth the Trip?
The new cards really power-up Warlocks and Undead but there aren't many cards for warriors and a lot of the cards slow down the action. It's a cool new set that's great for hardcore fans, and the two massive lord cards are a blast, but it's lacking in "gotta get it" mojo.
Through the Dark Portal Thumbs Up:
- Great power-ups for Warlocks and Undead.
- Druids can shift into cat form now!
- Sweet Loot Cards, including a pet monkey!
- New Draenei and Blood Elf heroes.
- Ivus the Forest Lord and Lokholar the Ice Lord... OMG!
Through the Dark Portal Thumbs Down:
- Not many good weapon or armor cards.
- Lots of defensive cards and not many attack cards slows down the action!
- Not a lot of exciting new abilities...
