Romeo isn't so Lil' anymore - the young rap star has a new DVD out, two movies on the way, an album due out this year and a book he's written with his famous dad, Master P. We sit down to chat with this up and coming mogul!
Sindy: So you've changed your stage name from Lil' Romeo to Romeo since the last time we talked to you. When did you know the time had come?
Romeo: I never really changed it myself, but when people see me these days they always say, "Oh, you're not little anymore" so they call me Romeo. But I never officially changed it - it's still Lil'Romeo or Romeo, whatever you want to call me, you know?
Sindy: Can you tell me a little bit about your new movie Crush on U?
Romeo: It's with a new artist, Forrest Lipton, who is really talented. She's 12 years old and she's already won Apollo, Star Search, all those sorts of things. So I just wanted to do something out there for the kids - you know, cuz everyone can relate to this, everybody's had a crush on somebody. It's just one of those movies you can watch with your family - your brother, your sister - that you can get a good laugh out of.
Sindy: Your album that came out last year is called God's Gift. Are you a religious person?
Romeo: I'm definitely religious. Me and my family go to church every Sunday, and I know I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the man up above. I really do a lot of things - I still go to regular school, play on a basketball team - I'm top 20 in the nation - I do the acting, the movies, and the music at the same time - and I just recognize that I've been blessed.
Sindy: And you have another album out this year? What can we expect from that?
Romeo: Yeah, I do. It's called the Gumbo Station, cuz you know gumbo has a lot of different variety in it - you got your hot sausage, you got everything - so this album has a lot of different variety. I just really wanted to do something different, something unique, so that's why I called it the Gumbo Station.
Sindy: Cool. So in what way will it be different from your other albums?
Romeo: Well, just in life you grow and mature - I've definitely grown, and I think it shows on this album. I really think this is my best album. I've been writing for a while and it's finally paid off. I've got songs that are going to make you think, I've got songs that are going to make you cry, I've got songs that are going to make you laugh, or make you dance. So it's got everything you need. I feel really good about this one.
