What's up with the price of concert tickets? It's ridiculous. I mean a ticket for the new Backstreet Boys show costs more than my bike.
To get a seat for the upcoming BSB show in Orlando the tickets range from $38.50 - $95.00 US. You know the ones going for $38.50 US are the crappy seats that are so high up your head practically touches the ceiling and the guys will look like ants. It's the same deal for Canadian kidz who want to check out BSB in Vancouver. It'll cost between $77.75 -$147.75 CDN for tix. Then add another $5 or so for service charges. Holy! I don't know what you're getting for allowance these days, but most kids would probably have to save for months, if not years.
If you're lucky your parents will get you tickets. What happens if you're little sis wants to go too? Depending how old you are, your mom or dad might have to get a ticket to join you too. Then there's extras like food or goodies and if you decide to get a program or T-shirt be prepared to pay. Wow, a night out to watch the Backstreet Boys will end up costing a couple hundred dollars. Ouch.
What about the families who can't afford to get their kid a ticket? It must be really hard for parents to tell their son or daughter that they can't go see their favorite band because it costs too much. It's not just the Backstreet Boys concert tix that are outrageously priced. It's seems like it's just about every show you want to go to. Britney tickets were really overpriced last summer and so are tickets for the upcoming Janet Jackson tour.
The part that really bugs me is that most of the fans at these concerts are young. Many of them don't have jobs so it's up to the parents to fork it over.
I think that artists should force ticket companies, like Ticketmaster, to lower the prices so they are affordable for everyone. Pearl Jam tried to do this a few years back, but only ended up hurting themselves because they were the only band trying to do it. If all musicians joined forces together to lower ticket prices I think they could make it happen. They will still make a huge profit and should feel better that they have made their fans happy. After all, isn't it all about the fans? Without them coming to see the shows, the bands wouldn't be able to go tour. So come on BSB, Janet and others - cut us a break - we can barely afford the price of a movie ticket.
