Mandy Moore and Chris Kline team up in the new flick, American Dreamz, a spoof on the popularity of reality TV Show, American Idol. Find out if this politically-charged movie is something you'd enjoy watching!
American Dreamz - That's Dreams With a Z
The movie American Dreamz is a comedy about the state of America and the priorities of many of its citizens. In the movie, American Dreamz is a television show that crowns a singing star every season, with more people voting for their fave singer than votes cast in the presidential election! Mandy Moore plays the part of Sally Kendoo, the next, big American Dreamz hopeful, with Hugh Grant playing a Simon Cowell-type host of the show. While the country is glued to the tube, a terrorist group is plotting a way to infiltrate America and kill the President. Their big plan kind of just falls into place when one of their recruits accidentally lands a spot as a contestant on American Dreamz!American Dreamz - A Real American Dream
While Sally Kendoo sings her way to musical stardom, President Statin is trying to reassure the American public that he hasn't gone completely crazy (which is hard to do when you have other people talking for you all the time). His staff, and wife, decide the best way to convince America that he's still got what it takes to lead his country is to appear asAmerican Dreamz - Crash and Burn
This movie has a lot of potential to be extremely funny, but it only ends up being luke-warm in the humor department. All of the actors do a great job playing their respective parts, but somehow it just lacks real punch. Mandy Moore is fantastic as the soul-less, fame driven, celebrity wannabe and Hugh Grant nails his self-absorbed TV producer role. Dennis Quaid also plays the part of bumbling president really well, but there's just something missing to make American Dreamz truly great.American Dreamz - DVD Features
You know a DVD has fairly lame features when it lists the "snap case" as one of them. American Dreamz features the standard deleted scenes as well as a behind-the-scenes tour of the flick's wardrobe with Mandy Moore. You can also watch choreographer Jennifer Lee put Omer and others through their paces.American Dreamz - The Bottom Line
This isn't the kind of comedy with lots of fart jokes or people falling down. Instead, the jokes are more subtle and looking to send a message at the same time they make you laugh. You may not get the meaning behind everything in this movie, but there's enough surface humor (like Omar's flamboyant cousin, Iqbal, singing and dancing in his private, flashy recording studio), to keep you engaged. Despite the movie being about a reality TV show, it'll get you thinking about much more than who's going to win the next, big singing competition. So, if it gets a little discussion going about the state of the world, and makes you laugh, then why wouldn't you check it out?American Dreamz Rating:
