It's time to shed those winter layers cuz spring is just around the corner. But what's on the menu now that boho chic is off? Find out what this season's four key looks are!
|
2006 Spring - The Beatnik
The Beat Generation (American writers of the '50s who influenced the '60s) and Sputnik (the Soviet satellite) spawned the term "Beatnik." The Beatnik look, also known as the New Mod, is influenced by the Mod fashion of the '60s. It's all about monochromes (black-and-white) - turtlenecks, skinny pants, miniskirts, striped tops and dresses, opaque stockings and fishnets, go-go boots and ballet flats. As with any trend, don't overdo the Beatnik cuz you'll look like a zebra!
2006 Spring - The Victoriana
This is an edgier version of the fashion worn during England's Victorian era (1837-1901). With hints of Goth and Punk, Victoriana is soft and romantic without the frou-frou. The trend includes lace blouses, ruffled sleeves and necklines, tiered skirts and ribbons and bows, which are popping up at the waist and back. Pull off the look by pairing a Victorian blouse with skinny jeans and flats.
2006 Spring - The Nautical
The Nautical trend gets its inspiration from sailors - think of the colors navy, white and red, sea symbols like shells, anchors and pirates, and lots of stripes! But stick to one stripey item at a time cuz you don't want to go overboard.
2006 Spring - The Tomboy
If Victoriana is too girly for you, then you'll like the Tomboy look of oversized shirts, vests, suspenders and trouser-style shorts. Don't bother dishing out big bucks cuz you can just dig around in your dad's or BF's closet. Find a big, baggy dress shirt, wrap a wide belt around your waist - not your hips - and wear it with jeans and a vest. If the shirt is long enough, make it into a shirt dress!
