Ever heard of Lionhead Studios?
They're a British game company and they're making a new game called Black & White. The final touches are being are happenin' as of March 2001 and then, after three years, it'll finally be done. What's the big deal? Well, Black & White does some totally crazy stuff, building a website, searching the net on its own and being wickedly cool.
It's not about running, jumping, shooting, or anything like that. It's about being able to do anything you want. You play as the god of an island village. You float around and use your godly hand to tend to your villagers and train your animal companion. Mysterious Gold scrolls appear to tell a story and give you quests.
That's nothing unusual, it's how you play the game that's weird. Nothing uses menus or buttons, it's all about mouse moves and training your creature. Circle the mouse one way to make a wall of fire, another motion scratches your creature behind the ear.
Your creature's got a super-duper AI, he can be trained to do nearly anything. He'll learn spells, gather wood, fight enemies, even eat people. It's all up to how you train the critter. One thing it'll do without any training though, is run it's own webpage where it talks about stuff, complains if you're mean to it and shows off its stats.
