If you're in a funk and wanna stay that way don't pick up the A-Teens new CD Teen Spirit - it'll lift your spirits whether you like it or not. Band members Sara, Amit, Dhani and Marie wanted to send a positive, upbeat teen message - and they totally have.
The first single Bouncing Off the Ceiling (Upside Down) is full of energy that'll make you wanna smile and tap your toes, even if your goldfish just died. Another funky/fun number is Slammin Kinda Love which has an urban groove to it. All My Love has a latin-style backbeat and catchy lyrics. I found myself listening to Back For More over and over. It's got that great ABBA sound that A-Teens became famous on but it's new and fresh.
The best part about this album is it doesn't try to be anything it's not. It's pure and simple teen pop. It doesn't try to be too deep or too mature or too hardcore. It's fun, light, clean and catchy. Even their ballads, which some pop acts tend to be too melodramatic on, are soft and sincere with just the right amount of angst and longing. Firefly is a perfect example of a good pop ballad. And don't press stop on the CD player after the last track - there's a bonus ballad not marked on the cover and you won't wanna miss it!
The band that started its career covering ABBA's 70s hits has shown that they are more than a cover group. Teen Spirit is a good solid teen pop album.
