Football is the only thing that matters in Friday Night Lights - the story of high school football in small town Texas. Does this DVD score a touchdown or is it a third down fumble?
Friday Night Lights - Football Is Everything
Friday Night Lights tells the story of the 1988 season of the Permian High Panthers in Odessa, Texas. This flick is based on the book by H.G. "Buzz" Bissinger, who spent a year following the team. While the players, coach (played by Billy Bob Thorton) and fans struggle with ongoing personal conflicts, the football team fights for a state championship. On friday nights, the lights of the town's 20,000 seat stadium turn on and the dreams and hopes of the players and the town of Odessa come alive.
Friday Night Lights - More Than Football
While Friday Night Lights tells the story of a town where football is everything, this movie is about more than just football. It's also a story of a depressed town that lives for friday night football and about teenagers who are looked up to like super heroes. Even if you don't like football, you'll like this movie because it's got some great characters. Billy Bob Thorton is great as the team's emotional head coach. Tim McGraw plays an overbearing and abusive football parent and Derek Luke does a great job playing the Panther's cocky running back, who sees his football star dreams come crashing down after he injures his leg in a big game. If you are a big football fan, you'll love the game scenes in Friday Night Lights. From the bone-crunching tackles to the finger-tipped catches, the football action in the movie is so well done that you almost feel like you're in the stadium watching.
Friday Night Lights - Not Your Average Sports Movie
Friday Night Lights is not like a lot of predictable, heart-warming sports movies, where the team wins the title, the quarterback gets the girl and everyone goes home happy. This is based on the true story of what high school football is really like in many small towns. Players are treated like gods, but their dreams don't always come true, they don't always get a college football scholarship and they often end up staying in Odessa, cheering on the next generation of high school stars.
Friday Night Lights - DVD Features
The Friday Night Lights DVD has extra features that pack more punch than a helmet-to-helmet hit from Michael Strahan. DVD includes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie and a look at some of the real players and fans of the Permian High Panthers.
