In 2004, you've been bombarded with fairy tale movies of princes and princesses and happily ever after endings - but how many of them really get you day dreaming of what it would be like to be swept off your feet? Find out if the Prince and Me makes the grade or if you should keep searching for that perfect catch.
The Prince and Me - A Prince is Born
The Prince and Me is the tale of the
prince of Denmark. He's rich, young and can get any girl he wants. He's wild and his parents, the King and Queen of Denmark, have no idea how to
keep him in line. Then he gets the idea to head off to Wisconsin, after watching a Girls Gone Wild type commercial. His parents really aren't interested in funding any more of his "
self-discovery" trips, so he says he'll support himself while in
the States. And, it's at the University of Wisconsin that Prince Edvard finds the
girl of his dreams.
The Prince and Me - Magical Moments
At first you never think that Edvard and Paige (played by
Julia Stiles) will never get together. Paige is determined to not let love get in the way of her dreams of
becoming a doctor - which on one hand is pretty cool and on the other hand is pretty frustrating cuz you really want them to hurry up and
fall in love (it is a
romance movie, after all). Things eventually do heat up between the
two love birds when Paige invites Edvard to her parents' house for
Thanksgiving. One of the most exciting scenes takes place when Edvard enters a
lawn mower race with Paige's brothers - it's a lot of fun.
The Prince and Me - Royal Flush
Paige Morgan will probably remind you of another
Julia Stiles character think back, way back, to
Ten Things I Hate About You. Both Kat Strafford (Julia's character in Ten Things), and Paige Morgan are strong,
determined girls. Neither wants a boy to
get in the way of their dreams. The only difference with The Prince and Me is that Paige Morgan isn't all that likable. At first you think that Edvard doesn't deserve a girl like Paige cuz he's so
self-centered but as the movie goes on you realize that Edvard just needs to
grow up a bit - which he eventually does. Paige on the other hand is just
really whiny. She doesn't really try to be grown-up about her decisions - she just acts very impulsively and expects everyone to
feel sorry for her.
The Prince and Me - DVD Features
If you weren't impressed with the movie, it's doubtful that you'll be impressed with the
extra features on the DVD. The
alternate ending that's included is even worse than the one they chose. The deleted scenes are kind of cool, but they're not exactly worth picking the DVD up for.
The Prince and Me - Bottom Line
If you have to check out a fairly tale movie this year, make it something other than
The Prince and Me. There are a ton of great romantic movies out there - you'd be much better off checking out something like
The Princess Diaries or
A Cinderella Story. The story in The Prince and Me drags on and the characters will really
get on your nerves by the end.
