Read a review of the Ancient Sanctuary expansion set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game from Upper Deck!

The Ancient Sanctuary expansion set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game brings you a horde of new cards to add to your Yu-Gi-Oh! deck and a new human wave strategy to defeat your opponent with. We have the good, the bad and the bottom line on the set with our Ancient Sanctuary review right here!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Set Coolness

The new human wave strategy - using hordes of little creatures to mob your opponent, is a cool concept with some great cards to make the lil' critters pack more punch. Some Ancient Sanctuary cards are also a great way to bring big creatures into play - like Double Coston. There are also a few powerful cards that'll be showing up in lots of decks now that they're available.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Set Hot Cards

  • Double Coston - Good monster that counts as two tributes.
  • Emissary of the Afterlife - Decent monster that replaces itself.
  • Spirit Caller - Decent blocker that returns a destroyed monster.
  • Solar Flare Dragon - Decent monster that damages your opponent each turn. Get two of these out, and no other monsters, and you can't be attacked.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Set Lameness

Ancient Sanctuary has some problems. Most of the cards are too weak for competitive decks and the new deck strategy is really tricky to make work - only expert duelists should give it a try.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Set Value

If you like to play with new strategies, Ancient Sanctuary has some great cards to play with. But, if you're a totally competitive player, you won't find many cards that'll help you to win duels in this set.

    Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Thumbs Up:

  • A new strategy for casual games.
  • Some good new cards.

    Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Thumbs Down:

  • The new strategy is hard to use against regular decks.
  • No cards to speed up tournament decks.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Ancient Sanctuary Expansion Set Rating: 3
