Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Returns!

A remastered bundle of the first two games arrives this September!

May 12, 2020

In an unexpected announcement coming out of Summer Game Fest, an initiative by games industry veteran Geoff Keighley (host of the Game Awards) to fill the void left by E3 2020’s cancellation by announcing a bunch of new games throughout the summer. The first, a superb looking return to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in a fully built from the ground-up remake of the first two games. The game has been developed by Vicarious Visions, the team responsible for the other great remakes of Spyro and Crash, so it looks like Tony is in the best of hands.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 Remaster

A Faithful Recreation

These games might look much better than the PlayStation 1 versions, but everything about them is being kept as close to the originals as possible. You can expect every playable skater, every park, every trick to be there just as they were before. A few tricks from the later games will appear as well to enhance the game a bit, but for the most part, it will be just as it was in 1999 just with more challenges and tricks to execute like the revert, lip tricks, and wall plant. Rather than just being two separate games, each experience will be intertwined in ways that we haven’t seen before in a Tony Hawk experience.

“We didn’t want the game to be ‘Okay, you play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1, and then play THPS2 and start over from scratch, just like you would have if you bought the games back in the day,” The meta that sits over top of everything allows players to not feel like they’re losing progress by playing either one of the games.”

-Simon Ebejer from Vicarious Visions

Famous skaters Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, Andrew Reynolds, Elissa Steamer, Chad Muska, Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, Rune Glifberg, Kareem Campbell, Jamie Thomas, and Bob Burnquist will all be playable in addition to custom skaters that you can customize.

Create-A-Skater and A-Park

Returning to the remaster is the ability to create your skater and your own skate parks. Updated for 2020 with more options for customization, you can even share the skate parks you create with your friends and with the rest of the world to add even more content to the existing list of iconic levels from Pro Skater 1 and 2. And you’ll be enjoying all this content set to the majority of the original soundtrack from back in the day. After the more than disappointing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, this remaster is great news. Check back in tomorrow for another big announcement from the Summer Game Fest!

Watch Jack Black play the game with Tony Hawk himself!
