Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution Announced

A new CGI take on an old favorite story is coming to Netflix soon.

Pokémon: The First Movie debuted back in 1999 in the United States and introduced fans to Mewtwo, the man-made Pokémon. The movie is still considered a favorite among Pokémon fans, and it is getting remade into Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution as a computer-generated remake of the classic anime film.

The First Movie and Mewtwo Strikes Back

The First Movie was the first time Pokémon fans were transported into the world of pocket monsters on the big screen. The story follows Ash Ketchum and his friends as they uncover the secrets surrounding Mewtwo, a new Pokémon created as a weapon from the docile but hugely powerful Mew. Mewtwo catches on to his destiny as a living weapon and rebels, with Ash, Pikachu, Brock, and Misty caught in between. The original movie was developed by the creators of the original anime, while the new version has an art style all its own. Some of the human characters look a bit different than what you might be used to from the show, but the Pokémon themselves come to life in the CGI style.

The First Movie is a tear-jerker at times for longtime fans.

Coming to Netflix

The remake has already come out in Japan to much acclaim and will be arriving overseas on Netflix next month on February 27^th, so you won’t have to wait long to see the new version of an old favorite. There have been 23 animated Pokémon films to date, as well as the live-action Detective Pikachu from last year. Whether or not this new film is the first in a line of remakes, it is too early to say, but with how popular the movie was in Japan when it released, I would not be surprised if we see more of this style in the near future.
