Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Mobile Game Available Now

Returning to the Wizarding World on your personal device.

From the team behind the mega-popular Pokemon Go, the next mobile Augmented Reality game is taking players back into the world of Harry Potter. Though this doesn't appear to be a simple remake of Pokemon Go with a Wizarding World-skin thrown on top of it. Could this stand the test of time or will its popularity vanish as quickly as it came?

Niantic's Next Big Franchise

If you've sunk some time into Niantic's first big hit, Pokémon Go, then things may look pretty familiar at first. You're walking around a GPS world based on your real world location, however, rather than finding and capturing Pokémon you'll instead come across various threats in the Wizarding World. For example, your first challenge will be to free Hagrid from some nasty spiderwebs. In Pokémon Go you'd use your touch screen to hurl a Poké Ball toward the Pokémon you're trying to capture, a mechanic that was reused in Pokémon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go! Eevee on the Nintendo Switch. Here in Wizards Unite, you'll be using the touchscreen to cast different spells based on the different shapes displayed on screen and solve whatever problem is in front of you.  The gameplay is definitely very similar but the different scenarios are interesting enough to keep you wanting to see what surprise you'll encounter next. Though, I'd expect a few repeats to pop up along the way.

Harry Potter on Your Phone - Kidzworld Weekly News

There seem to be a few more customization options here than Pokémon Go presented at their own launch. Once you're a few levels in, you'll be designing your wand and picking your Hogwarts house of choice. Of course, this is a free-to-play mobile game so you're going to see an obnoxious amount of opportunities to spend some real world money. And while things are definitely a bit cleaner during this launch than they were at the start of Pokémon Go, there are still plenty of features that are unfinished which makes it even harder to justify spending any money on the actual thing. If you're going out on a walk and looking for something to do along the way, maybe download it and give it a try for yourself. It's free to play, so you don't have anything to lose but your time and data.

Warner Bros. Other Harry Potter Game

If you're more into the traditional style of gaming, with a controller and console, then you may be interested in the rumored Harry Potter game that'll likely be coming to next generation consoles. This leak apparently came from a pretty unexpected place, a shopping mall. Some shopper was asked to check out a trailer for an upcoming Harry Potter game and he sneakily recorded the trailer and uploaded the footage. Warner Bros has yet to confirm any plans for a Harry Potter game, so we don't have any official information, but it's a given that we'll one day have a Harry Potter game on our modern gaming machines. Check out the footage for yourself below.
