Hungry for some more Avengers after Endgame? Some new details about Square Enix's new Marvel Comics game have finally come to light after the announcement back in 2017. We will get many more details during E3 2019, but here is what we know so far.
The Avengers Project Announcement Trailer
It is an Action-Adventure Game
Similar to Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 last year, the Avengers game will be an action-adventure game. Unlike Spider-Man, however, you can share the action with your friends with up to four player coop. The original post has been removed, but here is a quote regarding how the game will play.
"This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your play style, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat."
Rather than having coop and the single player be two different modes, Marvel's Avengers will function similarly to Destiny in that all progress will be shared whether you are playing alone or with friends. Having this constantly connected experience means that you are always making meaningful progress no matter if alone or with a group.
Customization
It is unclear just how many characters are available, but heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Hulk are most likely guaranteed to appear. In addition to having multiple characters to select from, each character can be customized to your liking. Visual aspects like armor and costumes are no doubt included, but options to swap between different powers and abilities is hinted at by this quote. This means that even if two players were both playing as Iron Man, each Tony Stark could look and feel different. Having each character be able to switch out abilities, as well as being able to choose from a big roster of heroes means that Marvel's Avengers could stay fresh and fun for dozens of hours.
Working Together
One of the best themes of the Avengers in both the comics and the movies is the idea that many very different people can work together for the greater good. This will no doubt be found in the game as well, at least when playing with a group in coop. Games like Overwatch encourage teamwork by giving each player unique skills that when combined with each other well, usually mean victory. Each hero has a specific role to play for their teammates, and the team must communicate well and work together to win. A dynamic like this would be perfect for an Avengers game. Having Iron Man fly above and rain down support, while Hawkeye uses his bow at range and Hulk, smashes, could be a ton of fun especially if there are many characters to choose from.
Road to E3 2019
