“Fine, I’ll do it myself…” -Thanos
If you can’t get enough of Earth’s mightiest heroes after Avengers: Endgame, why not check out this new limited time mode in Fortnite? In Fortnite X Avengers: Endgame, instead of the typical 100 player battlefield players come to expect by now, this new mode gives fans the chance to wield legendary weapons and items from a few different Marvel heroes like Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s repulsor gloves, Hawkeye’s bow, and Thor’s new axe Stormbringer. On the other side, there’s the team of Chitauri warriors all with the chance of controlling the Mad Titan himself.

Changes to the Formula
The object of the mode is for the villain side to hunt down all of the infinity stones scattered across the map, while the heroes fight off the alien hordes and eventually their leader. Having both sides going after different goals entirely is unlike anything we have seen so far in Fortnite. The heroes side receives a treasure map of sorts that leads them in the direction of one of the legendary Avengers’ weapons or item. If Thanos gets control of the Infinity Stones first, he wins the match with a quick snap of his fingers, resulting in a “Snap Royale.” Another change to the usual gameplay is that players have the chance to respawn upon falling, creating an intense back and forth rhythm. This change could lead to many new and interesting game modes to come down the line since Epic Games seems eager to test their widely popular playable space with truly new experiences rather than just relying on what they know works.
Skins, Skins, and More Skins
With any new update of Fortnite, come new skins for characters and items. With this one being an Avengers crossover, there is an immense amount of potential. The first skin released allowed players to dress up their character as Black Widow, including a pickaxe skin resembling her electric staff. There is no doubt that more skins are on the way, and by the end of the event, don’t be surprised if you can don the iconic costumes of all the main Avengers. With a cast as large as the one in Endgame, I am very interested to see which characters make the cut and which do not. Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor are most likely guaranteed, but Falcon, Hawkeye, War Machine? Maybe less likely. There is also a paraglider skin available that looks like the group’s signature Quinjet so you can float onto the map in style. As of now, Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy is available as well as a playable skin.
Hands-on Impressions
After spending some time with the mode, it just might be the most fun I have had with the game yet. Rather than having to scavenge weapons and items, the hero team spawns with both a shotgun and assault rifle where Thanos’ team has access to a laser rifle and grenade launcher both with infinite ammo so the action starts almost right after touching down on the ground. The heroes then also get a treasure map that leads them to the legendary Avengers’ weapons. Rather than using a large portion of the map, the mode keeps the fast pace up by keeping the storm circle in a smaller section, making the gameplay flow a lot quicker than usual. The Chitauri are also given a jetpack to whip around the map and escape danger. Having two large and different teams makes each match feel unique, unlike the normal mode where you sort of just follow the same routine each time. Frantically hunting down the infinity stones is a blast, especially when the teams rally together to build structures around each stone to defend them, leading to some great moments. This event will last for the rest of this week, so get in while it lasts it is a lot of fun!
