A lot of different games flash across my TV, some of them good and some of them are not so good. If you're looking for a great gaming recommendation you are reading the right article. Each and every month I'll give you the update on my favorite game I played over the last 30 or 31 days. Some of these games will be newer releases and some will be ancient games that I dug out of my dusty old cabinet but they'll always be something I'm passionate about.
This month's game is...
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle seemed like an unlikely combination from the first moment we had heard about it but once the game actually released gamers were surprised by how good it actually was. The initial E3 reveal surprised by merely confirming that the odd game actually existed. Though Mario RPGs are the wackiest games to show off Nintendo's mascot, ever since Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars hit the Super Nintendo with a collaboration between Nintendo and Squaresoft (who later evolved into Square-Enix.) Since then, the Mario RPGs focused on either the Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi series but with Ubisoft's latest collaboration we have a new contender for the most bizarre Mario game.
A Rabbids RPG
The world of Rabbids started out as an addition to the world of Rayman back at the beginning of the Wii generation. While Rayman has evolved into a franchise mostly focused on awesome 2D sidescrollers, the Rabbids became their own beast of a franchise even getting their own TV show at one point. While Rabbids seem unlikely to mash up with Mario, that crazy combination of characters is part of what makes the story work so well. An engineer living in our world designs a crazy headset when the Rabbids appear and take the headset for a joyride before being thrown into the video game world of Mario.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: E3 2017 Announcement Trailer
The gameplay on Mario + Rabbids feels even more distinct than any other Mario RPG before it, taking more of a strategic route similar to the XCOM games. Taking turns, using movement, special attacks, and melee to take down multiple enemies and massive bosses feels like a breath of fresh air for the Switch. If you didn't like the Rabbids before this you'll still dislike them here but you could find yourself enjoying the actual gameplay here. And with the recently released Donkey Kong DLC coming to the title, there's not a better time to try your hand at the new game.
Some Other Awesome Games I Played This Month:
- Super Metroid
- Mega Man X
- A Link to the Past
