Summer is a time to kick back and enjoy the good weather. There are so many things to do see, and be a part of. If you are not in summer school, or not working, there are loads of things you can get up to. Summer is all about freedom and enjoying yourself. For many this is their favorite season and they look forward to it all year round. I'm sure you've heard the song "why can't it always be summer", this is because many people view summer as the best time of the year. A break from school, good weather and good people to make new memories with. If you're lost for ideas on things you could do to liven up your summer, check out this list of ten things you partake in to enjoy summer more:
1. Spend Time With People
Use this time to catch up with old friends and family. See people you haven't managed to pay a lot of attention to in the school year. People you've wanted to see, but couldn't make time for with your busy school schedule. Do fun things with friends and family. Go to the park, take an exciting walk, invite a pal up to your cabin or summer home if you have one. Rekindle past relationships and re-discover the magic and bond that you have.
2. Go to the Beach
The beach is your perfect summer hangout. There are no limitations, unless you have to be home at a certain time, but you can hang out with friends or family, soaking up the sunrays at the beach. Build a sandcastle, dive into the water, go down the slide if there is one. Visit the concession for ice cream and other delicious cool treats. Work on your tan, meet new people, and bring your dog with you. The sky is the limit. Nothing beats swimming in the ocean. You can even collect cool rocks and under the sea treasures as keepsakes. There is so much to do and explore at the beach, play catch or beach volleyball. Check out the basketball courts if they have them. The sky is the limit.
3. Go Swimming
Some of us are water babies and love being in the pool. Find a local pool that you can swim at. Yes, you can swim at the beach, but sometimes it’s nice to swim in water that doesn’t have rocks and seaweed In it. Grab a floaty and a glass of lemonade and let the water take you with it.
4. Go to an Amusement Park
If you can, and there is one close to your house, get out and enjoy the rides. A day at the theme park can be a lot of fun. Maybe go on a day that isn’t too hot so you don’t get too sunburnt. Win prizes playing games, ride the roller coaster if you are tall enough, grab some cotton candy or a candy apple.
5. Go on a Hike
Family hikes can be a lot of fun, and you can take a friend if you are allowed. Embrace the mountain beauty, or the greenery, or just take in the fresh air. This is also good for not becoming a summer couch potato who doesn’t leave the television. This is a good way to get out and about and enjoy nature.
6. Have a BBQ
BBQ’s are a summer staple and they are so much fun. Throw a burger or a hot dog on the grill and enjoy the summer sunshine. This can be a great way to bond with family and friends. Corn on the cob, potato salad, perhaps mom’s famous chocolate cake for dessert. You can have your BBQ at home or take it to the beach.
7. Have a Sleepover During the Week
Now this is something you probably were never allowed to do during the school year. In summer, every day is the weekend so you could potentially have a friend stay the night on any day of the week.
8. Go on a Bike Ride
This can be a fun activity for just you or for a group of people. You could even bike to the beach or to the pool. You can also use it as a way of getting to and from your friend’s houses.
9. Do Some Reading for Leisure
For leisure, we mean stuff you are actually interested in reading and not just material for school that you are forced to engage with. Some schools do summer reading lists, which are great and you can pick and choose the books you want to read first. Reading is also great at the beach and the pool. Reading in the sun with a cold drink is very relaxing just don’t forget your sunscreen. You could even read in the backyard.
10. Go Camping
If you are an outdoors person, nothing beats a good family camping trip. You could even bring some friends along. Swim in the lake, roast marshmallows by the fire and tell ghosts stories. Camping usually offers the chance to take a hike or an interesting walk. Nothing beats sleeping outside, and being surrounded by the fresh air.
As you can tell there is tons of stuff that you could do this summer to prevent you from being a couch potato. Hopefully, something on this list spiked your curiosity. Wishing you the best summer possible, may you make many new fond memories.
