Ubisoft's E3 2018 Press Conference Recap

Jun 11, 2018

By: Max Cannon

Ubisoft has dropped some big reveals at their E3 shows of the past. This year could show us a lot of different things including a new Splinter Cell, the inevitable deep dive into Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and maybe some big unexpected surprises? Here's what Ubi had to show!

Just Dance 2019

In the most Ubisoft type of fashion, we got an official confirmation of Just Dance 2019 with a giant musical number lead by a dancing panda bear alongside a marching band. The game is coming in October of this year and will likely come to every possible platform which so far includes PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and even Wii U, Xbox 360 AND the Wii!

Beyond Good and Evil 2

After kicking things off with an insane looking CG trailer to set the stage, Beyond Good and Evil 2 gave us a deeper look than the initial reveal from last year's E3. A brief look at gameplay was shown as players navigated what Ubisoft was calling "the sacred city" and would be one of the biggest locations in the game. However, what seemed the most interesting was the development of their "Space Monkey Program" which is an initiative that takes submissions from the public to put creations from any artist in the game whether it be writing, music, or a gorgeous visual. The submissions are hosted by HITRECORD, which was confirmed on stage by the site's creator Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Trials Rising

Trials is a silly platforming/racing/balancing that is essentially responsible for popularizing an entire genre of its own if you don't count the classic flash games that inspired it. The next game in the series, Trials Rising, is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in February of 2019 -- which is looking to be an incredibly packed month of new games like Anthem, Crackdown 3, Days Gone, and more. There's also a closed beta coming later this year that players can sign up for over at trialsrising.com/beta.

Mario + Rabbids DLC Dated

Lead with a medley of Donkey Kong music, we saw another look at the upcoming DLC for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle titled Donkey Kong Adventure. The new story content is planned for a June 26th launch so fans of the game don't have to wait very long at all to pick up the new content featuring gaming's favorite ape.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is Official

The last entry into the world of Assassin's Creed took us to the Egyptian desert with a new direction for the gameplay of the series, the gameplay seems similar to the last game and the setting takes players to the world of ancient Greece. The game is set for an October launch and for the first time in the franchise's history players can choose their character either male or female. The game focuses on combat and dialogue choices in a greater way than past games which hopefully adds some much-needed depth to the series.

Starlink Gets a Release Date

We finally got a deeper look into last year's toys-to-life game, Starlink, which has players building their own spaceships and then physically attaching them onto their controller to play in the game. This space shooter is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on October 16th, which is looking like a pretty packed month for Ubisoft. I initially described this game to friends as a sort of Star Fox type game which is even easier now that Star Fox is a playable character in the game on Nintendo Switch.

The Crew 2's Open Beta

Launching their open beta June 21st, The Crew 2 got itself a snazzy new trailer that showed off the three different ways to traverse the world. The game itself hits store shelves on June 29th, just a week after the beta.
