At the start of each month Sony and Microsoft release a slew of "free" games on their respective platforms if you are already paying for an online subscription for either company. Up until March 8, 2019, you won't need the newest console to take part as both PlayStation Plus and Xbox's Games With Gold offer games on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (and even PlayStation Vita.)
The New Games of PlayStation Plus
Starting Tuesday, May 1st you can get these upcoming games for free if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription.
- Beyond: Two Souls (PlayStation 4)
- Rayman Legends (PlayStation 4)
- Risen 3: Titan Lords (PlayStation 3)
- Eat Them! (PlayStation 3)
- Furmins (PlayStation Vita)
- King Oddball (PlayStation Vita, Cross-Buy with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4)
PlayStation Plus - May 2018 | Beyond: Two Souls + Rayman Legends | PS Plus Monthly Games
Here's how PlayStation describes their big games of the month:
"First up, we have Beyond: Two Souls. Dive into the remarkable life of Jodie Holmes, born with a connection to a mysterious entity with incredible powers. This singularly unique psychological action thriller developed by the same folks who are making Detroit: Become Human (releasing May 25), Beyond: Two Souls is sure to entertain and keep you on the edge of your seat." Beyond Two Souls is rated M for Mature by the ESRB for Intense Violence, Blood, Sexual Content, Strong Language, Use of Drugs and Alcohol
"Next, the classic Rayman Legends. Featuring four-player co-op and online challenge mode, jump in and save the Glad of Dreams. A platforming action game made for all ages, this is a great addition to any library". Rayman Legends is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB with Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief.
Beyond Two Souls is a game heavy on cinematic style staring big-name name actors like Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page. This is a remaster of a PS3 game but heads up that it is mature rated by the ESRB. Rayman Legends is a fantastic platformer with a vibrant art style that is welcome to PlayStation Plus and was originally featured on Xbox's lineup in March.
The New Game of Xbox's Games With Gold
Starting Tuesday, May 1st you can access the first wave of games on Xbox One and Xbox 360 if you have a Gold subscription on Xbox.
- Super Mega Baseball 2 (Xbox One)
- Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage (Xbox 360 & Backwards Compatible with Xbox One)
The second wave of games begins on Wednesday, May 16th.
- Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Xbox One)
- Vanquish (Xbox 360 & Backwards Compatible with Xbox One)
Xbox - May 2018 Games with Gold
Here's how Xbox described their big games of the month:
Super Mega Baseball 2
"The critically acclaimed Super Mega Baseball series is back with gorgeous new visuals, deep team and league customization, and long-awaited online multiplayer modes. Fancy yourself as either a rookie or baseball purist, SMB2 packs a mode for everyone. Compete in ranked matchmaking (1v1), dominate friends in arranged matches (1v1, 2v1, 2v2), or take on the AI (solo, local co-op, online co-op) – all kept fair by the dynamic difficulty system known as Ego." Rated E for Everyone on Xbox's site but there is no listing on the ESRB.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
"Ushering in a new era for the franchise with cutting-edge technology powered by the Fox Engine, MGSV: The Phantom Pain will give players a first-rate gaming experience as they are offered tactical freedom to carry out open-world missions, allowing them to find their own unique way to achieve victory. Traverse the world with jeeps, tanks, horseback and even on foot! Stay alert and don’t forget to call on AI companions when needed!" Rated M for Mature by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language.
My Winner This Month:
Both platforms have new additions that were older additions to their competitors. Personally, I'd say that Xbox has the edge for not just MGS but also Vanquish, if you could only get one platform.
