Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was one of the biggest releases of 2016 and one of the most anticipated PlayStation exclusives of all time. Upon the initial release of the game, developer Naughty Dog announced their plan to add DLC for both multiplayer and single player content.
You Got Your Gears of War In My Uncharted!
The first addition we've seen, aside from some new maps and modes, comes with a little bit of Xbox influence. Survival Mode is a coop/solo experience where you'll survive wave after wave of incoming enemies, facing down against a boss every 10th wave. While your standard enemies may get harder and harder each wave you don't start really changing the game up until you encounter these new bosses. Inspired by the pirates of Libertalia, from the main campaign, these supernatural enemies will take everything you've got to be brought down. With added objectives throughout, and the ability to upgrade your arsenal as you play.
It obviously sounds a lot like the horde mode in Gears of War, which isn't a bad thing. Just kind of an unoriginal thing. The game is supposed to launch with 10 different maps and the announcement trailer seemed to focus on events from previous games in the series, specifically Uncharted 2. But What About The Story?
As of the moment this is the only coop DLC we know of, which is a little disappointing. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception had several different coop stories ranging from adventures with Drake, Sully, and Elena to revenge tales as the villains where Zoran Lazaravic, Edie Raja, and Harry Flynn team up to take down Nathan. So while the Survival Mode is appreciated, I definitely want something with a little more story.
Luckily, rumors have circulated that we'll see a bit of story at the PlayStation Experience Conference on Saturday, December 3rd. No one knows exactly what we'll see - assuming we'll see anything - but it's been speculated that Nathan's long lost brother Sam Drake will be the focus of the upcoming expansion. A handful of industry insiders have claimed that the Sam focus isn't true, but that we will be getting our first look at the conference. Fingers crossed we get to see something there!
Personally, I would love to see a story expansion that can be played either solo or cooperatively but I'll honestly be excited for whatever the have to show me! Though Naughty Dog has often repeated that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was the final hoorah for Nathan Drake, I could see him making a small return seeing as though it is DLC it's still Uncharted 4! Nolan North, the actor that plays Nathan Drake, has even been rumored to have returned to the studio for this DLC. So will we be playing as him once again or will he just be cast to the side in this adventure?
