In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman is fighting Superman for the wrong reasons. Are you a fan who doesn’t care why as long as there is a big mega-battle? Check out our review of this jam-packed with extras Blu-ray/DVD/Digital set!
Heroes in Conflict
After the war Superman (Henry Cavill) waged against General Zod (in the Man of Steel film), Metropolis is wrecked. Although some humans still practically worship him, the superhero keeps getting blamed for the world’s ills. First in line to put him down is nearby Gotham’s Bruce Wayne aka Batman (Ben Affleck). He thinks this Kryptonian is more a menace than a God-like Messiah. With his immense power, Superman, unchecked, is a threat more than a hero.
Add in Lex Luthor
Ultra-weird, rich young industrialist Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) would like to rule a world without either superhero so why not pit them against each other? He secretly feeds each man’s weaknesses and guides them toward the ultimate confrontation. Despite Batman’s efforts to prevent him, Luthor is able to possess a huge Kryptonite chunk and, using it to create the ultimate anti-Superman monster, will he be able to crush the Man of Steel once and for all? Will Batman aid him in doing so or see a better way?
Bring in the Ladies
Superman and Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane (Amy Adams) are still an item and share an intense love. Poor Lois becomes a pawn in Luthor’s game to control Superman. Will she be able to help her man survive or be an instrument of his destruction? And, hey, who is that hot babe Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman played by Gal Godot) at all the Gotham social events? Bruce Wayne has gotta find out. She keeps stealing the same things he is after. Will she show up later to help him or hinder his anti-Superman efforts?
Special Extra Features
**Warning: The theatrical film was PG-13 but this "Ultimate Edition" is rated "R". Both are included in this set.**
- Uniting the World’s Finest focuses on building the characters toward forming the DC Justice League for this and future films. Filmmakers and actors, including Jason Mamoa who plays Aquaman, Ezra Miller who plays The Flash and Cyborg actor Ray Fisher are stoked to do more in future films. We also hear from some of the stars of the upcoming Suicide Squad film. Good feature for DC fans especially.
- Gods and Men: A Meeting of Giants –this featurette goes into the long history of Batman and Superman in comics. Ben and Henry talk about how different yet similar the two heroes are. There is some nice on-set action as well. Cool extra.
- The Warrior, the Myth, the Wonder is the Wonder Woman extra. I love it! Since we saw little of WW in action in the film, this history of the character and her growth through several decades (she was created 75 years ago) is great to have. We see how her look changed. There is a bit on the Linda Carter T.V. series. Very interesting and woman-centric.
- Accelerating Design: The New Batmobile – is an in-detail examination from design (on a napkin) to final car, then testing the car etc. The scenes including it in the film were so dark that it’s nice to see it more clearly.
- There are three featurettes; one on Superman (Superman: Complexity and Truth), one on Batman (Batman: Austerity & Rage) and one with Wonder Woman (Wonder Woman: Grace & Power) that include Henry, Ben and Gal Gadot talking about how they interpret the characters and alter-egos Clark, Bruce and Diana. We see costume designs and also the actors working in the costumes on set. Weaponry and stunts are addressed. Fun features. A great examination of all three characters.
- Batcave: Legacy of the Lair – We check out the design and building of the Bat Cave, lab and workshop. Big set – interesting.
- The Might and the Power of a Punch – The huge Supe V Batman showdown battle is taken apart piece by piece. Nice to see how it was done.
- The Empire of Luthor centers on villain Lex Luthor as played by Jesse Eisenberg. We also get a history of the character in the comics.
- Save the Bats is a nice extra that encourages us to help save bats. Kids and filmmakers build bat houses for them. They are suffering from a fungus disease that may wipe them out. We see little ones and huge ones and Amy Adams, who admits she was once afraid of them, saying how sweet they are. Nice.

Wrapping Up
This combo set is well worth a buy even if you weren’t crazy about the film but want to know more about the history of the characters from the actors who played them or you look forward to more Justice League films.
I felt that the extras in this set were actually better than the film. I also watched the longer “Ultimate” cut and a few holes in the story were filled but, sadly, nope not much more with Wonder Woman.
If you are happy to finally see the big Supe Vs. Batman battle or get a glimpse the future Bat/Supe/Wonder trio or you want to know more about these characters, this set would be great for your collection. We went 3 stars on the film but with these extensive extras to enjoy, we go 4 on the set.
