Nick Jonas second solo album Last Year Was Complicated dropped this month, and its packed full of summer jams - find out more in the Kidzworld review!
Last Year Was Complicated
After bursting back onto the pop scene solo in 2014 with summer blockbuster hits like "Jealous" and "Levels" Nick Jonas is back with a new killer summer album. Leaving a boy band (or brother band), Nick changed up his style considerably for his re-introduction as a solo artist by doing more chill R&B songs, perfectly suited for the end of the party or watching the sun go down on the beach. Two years later on Last Year Was Complicated he returns to his ultra-pop roots with a more sophisticated sound.
The first track ("Voo Doo") sets the tone, kicking off the track list with a bang! This album is full of great, emotional pop-dance ballads, and we can only assume some of his romantically charged break-up/make-up lyrics are about his former flame and former Miss USA Olivia Culpo (you might remember her from the music video for "Jealous.") He's enlisted some great collaborators and hit makers like Ty Dolla $ign, Tove Lo, Big Sean and The Weeknd to pump up listen-ability on the album, and even though a couple tracks sound a bit like Justin Timberlake rejects (like "Touch"), they're the exception. Standout tracks include "Champagne Problems," "Close" and "Good Girls."
In short, you won't go wrong throwing this record on at a party this summer. Sorry last year was complicated NJ, but it sure is catchy!
