Update: Jonathan Blow has commented on the ESRB rating to Polygon, stating that it was only a formality to save time if and when they decide to do an Xbox One version. "We only put XB1 on there because it doesn't cost anything, and if we were to want to do an XB1 version later, we don't have to go through ratings again," said Blow. "But it is totally provisional, we have no plans for an XB1 version right now."
Sorry to get your hopes up, folks...
Original Story: The Witness, a new puzzle game set to release for the PlayStation 4 and PC on January 26, has been rated by the ESRB for the Xbox One as E for Everyone.
In The Witness, you'll explore a vast, colorful and ridiculously pretty island filled with brain melting puzzles which need to be solved in order to progress. Check out the latest trailer below.
The Witness Release Date Trailer
The Witness is heavily inspired by games like Myst with subtle visual and audio cues placed to give players hints. A pipe creaking or a chime blowing in the wind may lead to a possible puzzle solution. Every environment will need close attention paid to it in order to solve the islands mysteries. Audio logs will also be scattered around the island to find and listen to. Jonathan Blow, designer of The Witness, states that the audio logs here are integrated "in a highly non-traditional way" though. What that means remains to be seen.
