Kidzworld reviews Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Are these little talking, singing guys still adorable and giving their human dad trouble?
By: Lynn Barker
In Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, will the chipmunks’ “dad” Dave abandon them in favor of a new love in his life? Can they hit the road to break up the couple?
The Big Party
Singing, talking, dancing chipmunks Alvin (the feisty leader), Simon (the sweet nerd), Theodore (the chubby, worried one), voiced by Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney, throw a big birthday party for their human dad Dave (Jason Lee) but it gets crazy out of hand before he even gets there. Dave scolds his little charges. He is in love with a new woman named Shira (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) and they just have to behave!
Meet the New “Mom”
On a miniature golf outing, chipmunks meet Shira's teenage son Miles (Josh Green), who scares them with joking about super-gluing them together! They are then super afraid that he will harm them if he becomes their “step-brother” and maybe Dave won’t love them when he gets married. Dave and Shira just can’t get married. Dave will take a trip to Miami with her and propose. They’ve gotta stop this!
On the Road ..and Plane
Miles becomes their ally because he doesn’t want a new dad. The four take off from California to Miami to track town the would-be new couple and stop the proposal. First on a plane, Theodore in cargo releases a bunch of animals who go nuts all over the plane forcing an emergency landing. Now a U.S. Air Marshal (Tony Hale) is disgraced by the mess and starts following the four across country.
By Car
The chipmunks perform for tips in Texas and hit New Orleans turning the French Quarter into Mardi Gras early by dancing to “Uptown Funk”. Will the gang stop the proposal in Florida? Will they really want to? Will the Air Marshal catch them?

Wrapping Up
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is full of silly mayhem and pottie humor with occasional cuteness and some fun musical numbers. If your younger bro or sis isn’t ready for Star Wars, drop them off at this film. Jason Lee seems to be getting bored playing Dave but Tony Hale is a fun villain. There is a sweet theme; families don’t have to look alike… or even be the same species. Families are made up of beings who care about each other. We go three stars.
