The holidays are the perfect opportunity to get some good family time in. And there's no better use of family time than some head-to-head local multiplayer action that will leave you all with a giant smile on your face.
Here's Kidzworld's list of some of the best video games to play with and against your family this year. And as a bonus, most of these games can be had for just a few bucks on Steam!
iDARB (Steam, Xbox One)
iDARB is a multiplayer, arena sports battle game. Imagine soccer, but instead of simply running, your jumping over platforms and using sneaky routes in order to get to the goal. iDARB is frantic and zany from the very beginning and will make for some fun competition in the house.
Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
Mario Kart has been a bit of a staple over the years when it comes to great local multiplayer and Mario Kart 8 is no exception. There's even 2 new DLC packs that add even more courses and characters. And 4 player split screen allows everyone to get in on the action, just watch out for the Blue Shell!
Speed Runners (Steam)
The name says it all. Race your friends and family to the end of the level! It's not as simple as it sounds though. Run, jump, swing and use crazy power-ups to knock your competitors out of the race. Speed Runners supports 4 players at once!
Nidhogg (Steam, PS4)
Pixelated ninjas battling it out for supremacy! It may look simple but there is enough depth here to keep the fights not only exciting to watch but a heck of a lot of fun to play. Settle that holiday argument with your brother over a little Nidhogg.
Nintendo Land (Wii U)
3 years on, and Nintendo Land is still one of the best examples of the Wii U Gamepad used to create unique gameplay. Dust off this great game and play a wide assortment of cooperative or competitive local multiplayer modes with a variety of classic Nintendo characters.
Towerfall (Steam, Ouya, PS4)
Use arrows and ground stomps to put an end to the opposing team! It may sound a little violent, but its aggressive 4 player local action is some of the most frantic fun you can have at home playing a video game. Towerfall is a must play.
Super Smash Bros. (Wii U/3DS)
There have been a few great Super Smash Bros. games over the years but Super Smash Bros. for Wii U takes the cake for having the most eclectic cast of fighters yet and some seriously balanced gameplay. Mario versus Sonic. Pac-Man versus Mega Man. Donkey Kong vs. Samus. Schoolyard arguments over which game character would win in a brawl can now be settled once and for all.
