Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe was born in Lexington, Kentucky. You might just be hearing about her, but Tinashe has already had a long career in entertainment, booking her first modelling gig at the age of three, and started learning jazz, tap and ballet at age four. Her father comes from Zimbabwe and in the Shona language her name means "We are with God."
Tinashe released her first full album in 2014
Tinashe has two younger brothers, and when she was eight years old her parents moved the family to Los Angeles, where she continued to dance and compete til she was 18.
The Stunners and Going Solo
In 2007 Tinashe joined a girl group called The Stunners, formed by former pop star Vitamin C. Six months after starting out the girls signed a record deal and had a single destined to be part of the iCarlysoundtrack - the song never made it out of the studio, the band had some successes, but when everyone called it quits in 2011 Tinashe knew it was time to strike out on her own.

Tinashe kicked off her solo career by performing "God Bless America" at a Dodgers Cubs game. Tinashe started out by releasing covers, like a version of Lil Wayne's "How to Love," and mixtapes, and soon moved on to full albums. She writes most of her music in her home studio, at home with her parents! Many people heard her for the first time in the remix of Nick Jonas' hit song "Jealous," but her first full album, Aquarius, came out in 2014.
"I'm just really inspired by R&B, hip-hop, and alternative music so I just wanted to combine all three of those for the sound. And the type of person I am, I just find darkness interesting in a way. I just love songs that sound like a little crazy, I think it creates an interesting juxtaposition between my voice because it is so bright, and soft, and like pretty, and sweet that I don't want my music to come across sweet or nice. I do like the opposite, so I think of something that's dark and heavy and then I put like sweet and light on top."
