Things are getting boring at the old farmstead. Shaun and his flock is bored silly since their farmer/owner doesn’t play or goof off with them anymore. They eat, get sheared and sleep. No wonder they dream of the far off big city!
Story Goes
Shaun, a feisty leader sheep, lives with his flock at Mossy Bottom Farm. The flock misses the fun they used to have with the farmer before everything settled into monotony so Shaun makes a plan to take the flock on a trip to the city. Whoops! He accidentally launches the sleeping farmer toward the city inside a small runaway travel trailer! The farmer’s loyal dog Bitzer follows the trailer telling Shaun to keep the flock at home.
Later, in the city, the farmer gets clunked on the head and ends up in the hospital with amnesia. Walking out of the hospital, he remembers how to shear a sheep and using clippers, becomes a famous hair stylist! He still has no idea who he is. At the farm, the pigs have taken over the farmer’s house and are raising heck. This can’t go on! Shaun goes to the city and the flock follows. After several adventures, Shaun and flock find the farmer but he doesn’t recognize any of them.
Teaming up with a wacky homeless dog named Slip and avoiding Trumper, an evil animal control dude, the gang devises a plan to abduct the farmer and take him home where he surely will remember everything! Shaun and the flock will send the farmer to sleep while he counts them and take him back home. It works but evil animal control guy follows. Will everyone, including homeless dog Slip, end up okay and happy? Will the farmer wake up, remember and realize how much he loves his flock and they him?
Wrapping Up
The Shaun the Sheep Movie is adorable, funny, clever, full of love and beautifully stop-motion animated! The film is from Aardman Studios, the fun and brilliant guys who created “Wallace and Gromit” and the “Chicken Run” movie. Some of the more subtle humor might go over the heads of younger kids but the whole family will chuckle at the physical humor and visually delightful pranks and stunts. You really root for these silly-looking sheep and especially for the stray dog they meet to triumph, escape evil and be happy at home. All this and not one word is spoken. The cast make noises of course but nothing you can really say is a word. It’s like an amazing silent movie!
A chase toward the end is hilarious as the sheep all create, then climb inside and operate a giant cloth horse they have made in which to take the sleeping farmer home. The animal control sicko is on their trail.
The music is very catchy. The sheep sing a happy summer song in great harmony and, over the end credits you get the cute “Shaun the Sheep” song from the TV episodes but done in rap style. Worth a stay to listen!
As summer races to an end and you start back to school, you can’t do much better for a happy family time at the cinema than taking the gang to see the Shaun the Sheep Movie! We go 4 stars.
