Lifelong pals Lloyd and Harry are off on a new adventure after 20 years! Will you laugh at the goofy buddy comedy “Dumb and Dumber To”? Check out Kidzworld’s movie review.
By: Lynn Barker
For 20 years, Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) has been visiting and caring for his best bud Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) who has been mentally ill since his romance didn’t work out. Now Harry has serious medical and personal problems of his own. Can Lloyd snap out of it to help his old pal?
At the “Nut House”
Harry comes to visit pal Lloyd at a mental facility where he has been for 20 years. Harry can’t care for him anymore. He has two huge developments in his own life; he needs a kidney transplant and he has discovered that he has a daughter he never knew about. Lloyd snaps out of his catatonic state only to let Harry know that he has been pulling the ultimate joke on him….for 20 years! He isn’t mentally ill at all (well, that’s debatable).
On the Road Again
Through a lot of wacky adventures, Lloyd and Harry re-meet Fraida Felcher (Kathleen Turner) whom one (or both?) of them hooked up with waaaay back in the day evidently resulting in the birth, over 20 years ago, of pretty but dense daughter Penny (Rachel Melvin). Penny is giving a speech at her adoptive dad Dr. Pinchelow’s tech/science convention and forgot an important package to be delivered there. Of course Harry and Lloyd will take it to her in El Paso, Texas.
The Baddies
Penny’s adoptive mom is hottie Adele (“Walking Dead’s” Laurie Holden) who is, of course, after dad’s money. When she learns that the package contains something of great value, she and her gardener/lover Travis (Rob Riggle) are off to the tech convention to get it. The gang, including Fraida, end up at the science convention where Lloyd has fallen for Penny, Harry is mistaken for famous scientist Dr. Pinchelow and everyone learns that what’s in the package and just about all they thought they knew about each other, isn’t what they expected.
Wrapping Up
Dumb and Dumber To is full of physical and verbal jokes; some are sick/hilarious, others aren’t that funny and go on too long. The whole movie goes on too long. The plot of the film is similar to the first Dumb and Dumber; deliver a package to a pretty girl, get to her via a bunch of wacky “rides” and one of the guys falls for her.
Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) are totally in character. It’s weird to see them 20 years older as the same characters (go watch the first movie on video if you can before seeing this one) but they don’t miss a beat. Supporting characters/actors are excellent in their wacky roles with Kathleen Turner standing out. She was a hottie back in the day and is not too proud to make fun of her once hot rep. Rob Riggle is a hoot as the greedy gardener AND his twin bro, a weird undercover operative.
What works for the two lead characters is that, under the extreme pranks they play on each other and despite various arguments along the way, there is real brotherly love there and that’s what endears them to us.
Be warned that there is “pottie” humor galore in the film and you will be saying “ewwwwww” maybe way too often but, will you laugh? Sure and for that we will go 3 stars.
