Nintendo Announces Hyrule Warriors

Dec 18, 2013

In the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo totally blind-sided us with an unexpected announcement. They have teamed up with Tecmo-Koei, the developers of the hugely popular Dynasty Warriors series to offer fans of both the Warriors series and Zelda series alike something interesting to look forward to.

Hyrule Warriors is that "something interesting". If you have never played a Dynasty Warriors game, here's the basics behind it. You choose a warrior to play as and then set out battling through massive scale fights, eventually facing off against some type of boss figure near the end. It's fairly simple hack 'n slash gameplay but it's fast paced and a lot of fun.

So now take that premise and apply it to Hyrule and throw in Link (And presumably more) into large scale battles against famous foes and you'll have an idea of what Hyrule Warriors is all about. The reveal trailer shows familiar items such as bombs, a fire rod and of course Links spinning attack. Check out the trailer below for yourself.

Hyrule Warriors Debut Trailer

This is not the first time there's been such a collaboration, a couple years ago Dynasty Warriors was joined with the world of Gundam, you can check out our review of Dynasty Warriors Gundam right here.

The trailer also says that "Hyrule Warriors" is just a working title for now, so it could change before the games eventual release date. Which is sometime in 2014. Nintendo was also quick to note that this is not the new Zelda adventure game that they are working on. A true Zelda for Wii U will be shown at a later date -- probably E3. The Zelda franchise has been getting some love from Nintendo lately, who just released the fantastic The Legend Of Zelda: A link Between Worlds. And don't miss Kidzworld's rankings of the Top 5: Zelda Games!

Hyrule Warriors is coming exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U.
