Disney's Planes is a video game based on the Disney Pixar movie of the same name. The main character of the movie is Dusty Crophopper, a lowly cropduster plane that dreams of being a race plane. He gets his chance to race around the world in the Wings Across the Worlds race and makes new friends while seeing new and amazing places. The video game follows the story of the movie and also includes a couple of mini games.
Wings Across the World
The bulk of the content in Disney's Planes is the story mode, which roughly follows the plot of the movie. You get to play as Dusty and race other planes around the world, visiting places like India, Nevada, and the Himalayas. Mixed in with the races are a few objective missions related to the story. There is also a Balloon Popping mini game and Air Rallies, which is more racing. Finally, there is the Free Flight mode, which is not available in the PC version of the games. Free Flight mode allows you to explore any of the ten levels in the game without worries. If you find the hidden golden puzzle pieces in the level, you unlock postcards.
Flying Low
Overall, Disney's Planes is a fairly short game that can be completed over a weekend, making it a good rental. The flying and racing in the game is fairly repetitive and ten levels is not much to explore, especially when a few of the levels are quite bland and boring. The controls for the game are pretty good. You will be able to pull off neat tricks while racing and flying around. The overall difficulty of the game is good for younger kids, since you do not need to win races to continue, just earn the points over time instead.
