It’s that time of year again: back to school. If you’re going to a new school this year – whether you are heading to high school or just moved to a new location – you might be a bit scared your first day. Making new friends can definitely be scary. But, it doesn’t have to be! Other kids want to make new friends too, just like you. Kidzworld has some easy steps for making friends this new school year.
Be Friendly
Go to class with a smile on your face and try to talk to as many people as possible. If you are friendly it will be easier for other kids to include you in their group.
Join a Team
Choose a team to join at your school, whether it be a sports team or something like choir or student council. This will automatically connect you with a group of people with similar interests.
Introduce Yourself
If you see someone you want to be friends with, make the first move and say hi!
Find Common Interests
If you start talking to a group of people, try to start conversations about what they like – TV shows, movies, music, etc. It is easier to make new friends if you have similar interests.
Plan a Party
Sometimes it is easier to connect with people outside of school. Ask your parents if you can invite some of your new friends over to watch a movie or have a backyard barbecue. This will show that you’re willing to make an effort.
