2013 Stanley Cup Preview

Apr 28, 2013

The most beautiful trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup, is getting buffed up and polished for 2013 NHL playoffs. This year, each team only had to play 48 games because of the lockout, so the road to the Stanley Cup has seemed a little bit shorter... but it's still up for grabs and 16 teams have made the playoffs. Who's going to win the Stanley Cup? Here is Kidzworld's preview of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs:

Presidents of the NHL

The Chicago Blackhawks have won the Presidents Trophy for completing the 2013 regular season with the best record. The Blackhawks started the season with 24 games without losing and they have only lost 7 games throughout the whole season... they are too good to be true! The NHL might as well start engraving the Blackhawks on this year's Stanley Cup.

Pittsburgh Pressure

If any team is going to give the Blackhawks a run for their money, it's going to be the Pittsburgh Penguins. Even without their star player (and indisputably the best player in the NHL), Sidney Crosby, the Pens are dominating. How are they doing it? Well they recently picked up Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames and Jarome has been lighting the lamp in Sidney's absence. Who knows what will happen when Sid returns.

Goaltending Game

With two teams dominating the regular season, does anyone else stand a chance to win the Stanley Cup? Of course! Playoff hockey is a completely different game with full-length overtime periods to settle long grudging ties and the hottest goaltender can sometimes carry a team on his shoulders. There are so many amazing goaltenders in the NHL, if any one of them catches fire, you can expect some upsets. Here is a quicklist of some of the goaltenders to watch during this year's Playoffs.

  • Craig Anderson - Ottawa Senators
  • Cory Schneider - Vancouver Canucks
  • Jaroslav Halak - St Louis Blues
  • Jonathon Quick - LA Kings
  • Carey Price - Montreal Canadians
  • Jonas Hiller - Anaheim Ducks
