This week on American Idol (Season 12, Week 2), the judges, in all their bickering glory, head to Charlotte, North Carolina. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “Audition #3,” which aired on January 23, 2013 to discover what you missed.
The Country Thing
Last week gave us a small taste of what this season's drama among the judges would look like. And this week was no different. In North Carolina, things got heated when contestant Summer Cunningham said that she "did the country thing." This statement rubbed country star Keith Urban the wrong way and led to a full on judges war. Frustrated with the other judges' need to define Summer's genre, Nicki Minaj walked off the panel.
North Carolina's Highlights
In spite of the bickering judges, there were some outstanding performances. Candice Glover, a 22-year-old who has recently been compared to season 11's Joshua Ledet, blew the judges away. She recieved a standing ovation and praise from Randy, who called her the best they'd seen so far this season. There were also two notable sob stories that had a happy ending: Serena Guinn auditioned with her young daughter in tow while her husband was at home recovering from a near-fatal accident. She stood out for her awesome rendition of "Fresh Prince of Bel Air." Then there was Brian Rittenberry, whose wife overcame cancer.
