The Muppet Christmas Carol 20th Anniversary: It's Not Easy Being Scrooge Special Edition

The Muppet Christmas Carol, starring Academy Award-winning actor Michael Caine as the hard-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge was first introduced to audiences in 1992, and has been remastered and re-released this holiday season as The Muppet Christmas Carol 20th Anniversary: It's Not Easy Being Scrooge Special Edition.

With the exception of Caine taking the lead as the humbug-hollering, holiday-shunning Scrooge, the rest of the movie if full of familiar Muppet faces, recast as the characters from Charles Dickens' timeless classic about the true meaning of Christmas. This miser is no match for The Muppets once the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future decide to pay him a visit. Narrated by Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat (who try endlessly to upstage one another) there's no shortage of hilarity and heartwarming holiday moments.

The Bottom Line

This was the first Muppet movie to be made after legendary Muppet-creator Jim Henson (who also did many of the iconic Muppet voices) died, and his son Brian Henson decided to take up the family business to great success. Muppet fans were not disappointed and the re-release The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is according to many critics one of the best Muppet movies to date, was eagerly awaited by fans.

What's truly incredible about The Muppet Christmas Carol is that although it's full of the usual Muppet hijinx and jokes, Michael Caine delivers a truly noteworthy performance as one of Dickens' most famous characters, and the movie also manages to stay true to the original story. In addition, the revamped sound highlights the many memorable music scenes in the movie. The bonus features add a little something special for the season.
