Elena Gilbert
Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev, is the main character of The Vampire Diaries. She is a high school student who comes from the Gilbert family, who helped to found Mystic Falls. When she was younger, her parents died in a car accident so her aunt is the legal guardian of her and her brother Jeremy. When Stefan and Damon Salvatore return to town, she ends up in a complicated love triangle, although she always finds herself drawn to Stefan. Elena is the doppelganger of Katherine, an ancient vampire.
Bonnie Bennett
Bonnie Bennett, played by Kat Graham, is Elena’s best friend. In season one, Bonnie finds out that she is a witch, just like her grandmother. She spends much of her time learning to harness her powers for good and help get her friends out of trouble. She falls in love with Elena’s brother Jeremy, although they can never find a way to make it work.
Caroline Forbes
Caroline Forbes, played by Candice Accola, is best friends with Bonnie and Elena. Her mom is the sheriff of Mystic Falls. In season two, Caroline is turned into a vampire after she is given Damon’s blood. She falls in love with Tyler Lockwood, who discovers he is a werewolf.
