This week on So You Think You Can Dance (Season 9, Episode 14), the Top 4 showed America what they’re made of in 5 different routines each! Read Kidzworld’s recap of the “Top 4 Perform,” which aired on September 11, 2012, to discover what you missed.
The Routines
Original partners Cyrus and Eliana teamed up once again to perform a Paso Doble. Nigel had a few critiques on Cyrus’s technique, but he said that Cyrus definitely deserves to be in the competition. Eliana, like always, gave it everything she had.
Tiffany and all-star Will performed a Sonya jazz number that showed off Tiffany’s amazing ability. Mary said that she’s the epitome of a fabulous dancer.
For the first time ever, two ballet dancers made it to the top 4. So when Chehon and Eliana paired up, classical ballet was the obvious choice. The routine earned them the first standing ovation of the night.
Last week Tiffany and Cyrus portrayed a young frisky couple. This week they performed a lyrical hip hop routine about young lovers breaking up. The judges said that both are very good at performing emotional routines.
After the top 4 performed in a group number choreographed by Tyce Diorio, Chehon and all-star Allison took to the stage with a stunning contemporary piece. The judges said that after being so structured and stiff during his past performances, Chehon is finally free at last.
Eliana and Tiffany paired up for the first time this season with a Broadway-meets-burlesque routine that left Nigel sweaty and speechless. Mary called the routine extraordinary, fun and sassy.
Next, Cyrus and Chehon took on a fierce Sonya Teyah number. Nigel said that Cyrus is an inspiration and is his favorite person in the competition, while Chehon is his favorite dancer in the competition.
Eliana and all-star Alex landed a Travis Wall contemporary piece. Their chemistry was electric and Nigel called the routine his favorite of the night. He then went on to contradict himself from his previous comments to Chehon and called Eliana his favorite dancer, not just on this season but ever on the entire show.
Ballroom routines have proven to be Chehon’s weak spot, but his rumba with Tiffany couldn’t have been more sensual and perfect. Although the dancers denied it, they appeared to have a beautiful connection.
Then came the partnership you’ve all been waiting for: Cyrus and all-star Twitch teamed up for a hip hop routine about two genetically modified beings discovering their new powers. The judges gave them a standing ovation.
The Finale
Next Tuesday, America’s votes will be revealed on the finale episode of So You Think You Can Dance season 9. For now it’s up to America to decide which guy and which will be America’s favorite dancer.
