Parisian Pierre
Pierre David Guetta was born in Paris, France to a Moroccan Jewish father and Belgian mother. His father was a restauranteur. Pierre realized early on that he wanted to be involved with music. At 17-years-old he was already DJing at the Broad Club in Paris, mostly spinning pop music until he became familiar with house music after hearing it on French radio. He started hosting his own nights and eventually started DJing at clubs all over town.
DJ David
Dropping the “Pierre” he DJ’d under the name David Guetta and while honing his skills organizing club nights and putting on parties, David Guetta was also starting to create recordings with other artists, the first ones reaching the public by the early ‘90s. His first recording was a collaboration with French hip hop artist Sidney Duteil for the album Nation Rap.
Guetta’s Gum
In 2001 David Guetta and Joachim Garraud started Gum Productions, in the very same year David released his first hit single: “Just A Little More Love” featuring American singer Chris Willis. The two met while Chris was on vacation in France. The following year David released his debut album using the first single as the title. His follow-up album Guetta Blaster also featured tracks with Chris Willis and Guetta was starting to gain buzz as an international party DJ, playing in well-known vacation party spots like Ibiza.
Non-Stop Pop!
Pop Life, David’s third album, was released in 2007 and by 2009 he was named #3 out of the Top 100 DJs by DJ Magazine and had been named “Best House DJ” at the DJ Awards the year before. His next album One Love featured vocals by Estelle, Kelly Rowland, Akon and LMFAO. By this time David was well-known in the European electronic dance music circuit, but was soon to start conquering mainstream pop charts in North America by joining forces with The Black Eyed Peas, producing their hit song “I Got A Feeling”. Guetta started producing on many top American artists albums, creating some of the most memorable dance hits of the last few years, and showing no sign of stopping so far!
