Who is the most popular player in the NBA right now? Jeremy Lin!!! What? Who? That’s right! There’s no doubt about it but an undrafted point guard from Harvard, #17 Jeremy, has climbed the ranks from the New York Knicks bench warmer to a starting NBA point guard and international superstar sensation.
Earlier this year, when Jeremy moved to Manhattan to play for his third team in one month, he was sleeping on his teammate’s couch every night with his suitcases packed not knowing in what city he would be living or if he would even have a job playing basketball the next month. But after a series of miracles, Jeremy got his big break to play and only two months later he was invited to the NBA All-Star weekend!
It’s a “miracle from God”, Jeremy told basketball reporters who swarm Jeremy in the locker room after every game. Jeremy is lucky enough to get a seat on the Knicks bench after never even being drafted. Here is the timeline of Jeremy’s “Miracle to Broadway”:
- December, 2011 - Jeremy wasn’t getting much playing time with the Golden State Warriors and they cut him from the team
- December 12, 2011 - The Houston Rockets try Jeremy for a couple of games. Jeremy only plays seven minutes and gets the boot!
- December 27, 2011 - The New York Knicks pick up Jeremy to come to the Big Apple, but Jeremy sits on the bench for his first 20 games as a 5th string point guard
- February 4, 2012, After multiple injuries, Jeremy finally gets his big shot to start for the Knicks against the New jersey Nets and they win and Jeremy dazzles the crowd with some unexpected great plays
- With Jeremy as the starting point guard, the Knicks win their next 7 games
- Jerem-ania sweeps the nation and even the World as everyone in Taiwan is glued to their Televisions to see the Knicks play
- Jeremy’s rookie card sells for over $20,000 on ebay
- February 24, 2012 - Jeremy is invited to play on Team Shaq at the NBA All-Star Weekend
Jeremy isn’t one of the top 10 players in the NBA yet, but it’s amazing to see what a little bit of confidence is doing for someone who barely got to play. Jeremy is hitting game-winning last second shots, he’s all over the highlights after each game, and the fans love him because he is an underdog powerhouse.
