TK-N-CASH just released their first EP Pre-Shock last November, and are gearing up for more. Discovered by renowned rapper Ludacris, and launched into the music scene after landing a spot touring alongside hip hop stars Diggy Simmons, Mindless Behavior and Jacob Latimore, the rap duo are ready to take on the industry and win over more fans. KW: How old are you?
- CASH: 18
- TK: 17
KW: What made you first interested in music?
- CASH: Growing up in our generation you couldn’t help but be influenced by music. It’s everywhere!
- TK: For me, I lived in Hawaii for a while and it was Ludacris’ music that was being played all the time. That’s what got me interested.
KW: How did you meet?
- TK: We met doing shows around Augusta, Georgia.
- CASH: Yeah, he was doing his solo thing and so was I. After a few shows we realized our styles worked well together.
- TK: We did a song together (“Fruity Colors”) and decided to be in a group.
KW: How would you describe each other, and why do you think you work well together?
- CASH: (laughs) He’s hyper! Like, TK is in your face.
- TK: Yeah, and Cash is more laid back. That’s why I think we work well together, it’s kind of like Ying and Yang.
- CASH: What I lack, he has, what he lacks, I have. We’re a team.
KW: What sets you apart from other groups on the scene?
- CASH: We don’t TRY to be different. Being different has become this big cliché. We just do us.
- TK: It’s okay to be different, but it’s better to be you.
KW: How were you discovered?
- TK: We heard Ludacris was having a talent search so we performed and won. Two weeks later we were doing a showcase in front of Luda, Chaka, and Jeff, the CEOs of Disturbing Tha Peace.
- CASH: …and after that, CAME THE DEAL!
KW: Who are some of your major influences?
- TK: Everybody, I like a little of what everyone is doing.
- CASH: Yeah, music is going in a good direction.
KW: What is the best piece of advice you’ve received since entering the music industry?
- TK: Patience. Patience is everything.
- CASH: And be prepared!
KW: What is something most fans don’t know about you?
- TK: I’m shy… (laughs)
- CASH: I don’t think fans know how business-minded we are. We’re young, but we also want to have some control over how things go.
KW: Are you working on an album or mixtape right now?
- TK: Definitely, we’re always working. Right now it’s all about making G-Shock music the best it can be for the fans! Look for that in 2012.
