Sixty-four years after Bambi hit theatres, Bambi II was released, marking the longest time span ever between an original movie and its sequel! Now Disney’s releasing Bambi II on Blu-Ray + DVD on August 23, 2011, but only for a limited time!
Starting in the Middle
Instead of picking up where the original Bambi left off, Bambi II begins in the middle of the first film, right after hunters kill Bambi’s mother. Baby Bambi follows his dad, the Great Prince of the Forest, back to their den. His father asks Friend Owl to find a doe to raise his son, but owl points out that all the female deer are busy enough raising their own fawns as it is. So, it’s up to Bambi’s dad to raise him on his own.
Father’s Day
After a long winter, Bambi’s dad allows his son to go out and play with his friends – a bunny named Thumper and a skunk named Flower. The friends decide to go see the groundhog, who is about to predict whether winter will be over soon or stretch out for many more months before the coming of spring. At the ceremony, a young deer named Ronno tells Bambi about the dangers of humans, but Bambi doesn’t believe him until he sees some hunters while waiting for his dad to come and take him home. Bambi escapes the hunters, but he’s scared. Bambi’s dad is proud of Bambi for escaping the hunters.
New Mom
Friend Owl arrives with a doe who says she’s willing to take over raising Bambi. Bambi’s dad is sad to see his son go, but he has to take care of his duties as the Great Prince of the Forest. Ronno shows up, teasing Bambi and telling him that his dad is abandoning him because he isn’t proud of him. Bambi and Ronno fight, and while they’re going at it some hunters sneak up on them and trap the doe who was going to take care of Bambi. Instead of running away, Bambi stays to try and help his new mom, but the hunters’ dogs start chasing him. Bambi’s dad hears there is trouble, and comes to help. He eventually finds Bambi, who has managed to escape the hunters and their dogs. His dad is once again proud of Bambi for his braveness, and decides to raise his son after all.
