On So You Think You Can Dance Season 8, the Top 12 couples danced with their partners for the very last time. Each couple performed two routines on Episode 14, which aired on July 13, 2011.
Sasha and Alexander started strong with their powerful Paso Doble. Judge Nigel Lythgoe thought that Sasha dominated the piece; however, Alexander managed to keep up with her. Their second performance - Jazz - was even better, according to guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Next, Jordan and Tadd performed a dark and eerie Contemporary piece, choreographed by Travis Wall. Mary Murphy called their movements beautiful and magnificent. Unfortunately, their Broadway number fell flat for the judges.
Ryan and Ricky performed a Broadway number with an old Hollywood feel. Jesse said the piece felt muted. He knows they’re capable of more. But they redeemed themselves later with their Cha Cha!
Caitlynn and Mitchell danced a Hip Hop routine that was supposed to represent the abductees of the Congo. However, Mary felt that there was a disconnect between the dancing and the story. Their Jazz piece about a 70’s rockstar and her lying boyfriend was a million times better. Caitlynn even got to slap Mitchell in the face!
Melanie and Marko’s skills were really put to the test this week with their Tango. Nigel could tell that it was challenging for them, but he noted that their performance was tremendous compared to their rehearsal. Their second routine was a Contemporary piece in which Melanie was trying to show Marko the light. It gave Jesse goose bumps like Braille on his arm.
Clarice and Jess addressed women’s insecurities in their Lyrical Hip Hop routine. Mary called them cute and innocent, and mentioned that they have the exact same pulse and swag when they dance. After their second performance, guest judge Sonya Tayeh said she loved their Jive about ten times, although Nigel thought they lost some steam toward the end.
The Top 10 have been selected due to last night's elimination of Ryan and Alexander.
