With her friends away for the summer, Judy Moody must find a way to make her summer thrill-a-delic! Kidzworld reviews Judy Moody And The NOT Bummer Summer, which hit theaters on June 10, 2011!
Bad News
Judy Moody (Jordana Beatty) has created a thrill chart to ensure that she and her friends have the best summer ever! But when she finds out that her friend Rocky is going to circus camp, and her other friend Amy is going traveling with her mom, all of Judy’s plans go down the tube. Now all she has left is Frank, her one friend who can’t handle all the thrill-a-delic adventures she has in store.
Aunt Opal
But it gets worse. Her parents announce that they're going to California for the summer, and they’re leaving Judy and her brother Stink in the hands of their Aunt Opal (Heather Graham)...who they’ve never even met! She could be warty or cranky or a witch for all they know! But when Aunt Opal arrives, Judy realizes that maybe her summer won’t be so bad after all. Aunt Opal is a gorilla artist - someone who creates art out of anything and puts it everywhere.
Thrill Points
Amy and Rocky send Judy pictures of all the super exciting thrills they’ve been having, like swimming with sharks and walking a tightrope. So Judy decides to score as many thrill points as she can at home, from riding a roller coaster and an elephant, to walking on a homemade tightrope. But every thrill turns into a disaster, leaving Judy with zip, zero, zilch thrill points.
Big Foot
Meanwhile, her little brother Stink has become obsessed with Big Foot. He’s absolutely positively sure that Big Foot is real, but Judy’s not buying it. When a number of Big Foot sightings are reported in town, Judy and Stink have a stake out, hoping to catch him in their homemade trap.
The Bottom Line
Based on the bestselling books by Megan McDonald, Judy Moody And The NOT Bummer Summer is a great family film. It shows that if you try too hard to have fun, you’ll wind up having a lousy summer. So let the fun happen! Parents watching this film will recognize a familiar face in Mr. Todd (Jaleel White), Judy Moody’s third-grade teacher. He played the most famous nerd on TV - Steve Urkel from Family Matters.
