Mix and match your favorite Nintendo characters and play some sports in this party friendly game!

Mario Sports Mix for the Wii brings the Mario brothers, their friends, and a few enemies together for a sports day. There are four different sports to play in the game: Basketball, Hockey, Volleyball, and Dodgeball.

Sports Day

You can play Single Player, Multiplayer, or Exhibition Mode. For the single player and multiplayer modes, there are different short tournaments that you can participate in and different stadiums and arena to play in, each with their own special rules and features. Most games are 2 v 2, and you can make a team out of any two character.

Each character plays differently and has unique special moves. For example, Yoshi does his flutter kick in basketball for dunks while Luigi uses his Haunted Mansion vacuum to steal pucks in hockey. Mario Sports Mix is developed by SquareEnix, so a few extra characters can be played in game, including a Moogle and Black Mage. Classic items, like shells and bananas, also make an appearance, making the overall game less like a sports game and more like a party game.

Winning Moves and Misses

The game plays smoothly, the controls are simple and easy to learn, which is perfect for younger kids. However, while there is nothing wrong with the game, there is nothing spectacular either. Unlike Mario Strikers, the single player game for Mario Sports Mix is brief and light. Also, the AI for the game isn't that smart or challenging. It is easy to get bored quick when playing alone.

However, the game is definitely fun with a few friends. There is even a party mode with some mini-games to enjoy as well. In this way, Mario Sports Mix is a bit like the original Wii Sports. Overall the game plays without problems, but it lacks replay value and is better suited for rental or for people who regularly plays with friends and family.
