The fashion forecast for 2011 looks colorful, lacy, neon and slightly punk and biker style with a touch of 1970s thrown in (not all at the same time of course!). Now that 2010 is coming to a close, it’s time to look ahead for what’s going to be trendy for next year! Fashion always comes in cycles so don’t worry - you don’t have to throw away your plaid clothing, military jackets, faux fur or velvet dresses! Before you know it, the snow will be melting, the temperatures rising and it will be time for some spring and summer shopping again! Be one step ahead and check out Kidzworld’s guide to the upcoming trends to look for in 2011!
1970s Style
It’s hard not to love everything retro! The 1970s were such a stylish and cool era for fashion! Think disco style, flare jeans, platform shoes, high-waisted and wide-legged pants, fitted turtleneck sweaters and vests layered with beaded necklaces. Watch movies set in the 1970s or ask your mom or aunt what they used to wear back then - if you’re lucky you can get some real-life fashion inspiration from looking at any old pictures they have!
Vibrant Colors and Neon
Even though spring is a few months away, it’s nice to know that vibrant colors and even neon are set to be in next year! One of the most popular colors that all the fashion editors predict will be 2011’s hottest hue is posey pink! Not quite hot pink but not baby pink - this bright shade of pink flatters every skin tone and is just the mood lift our winter wardrobes will be needing soon! Neon colors are not for the faint of heart - you won’t be blending into the crowd if you sport neon green, orange and yellow! If you’re not quite into the idea of a neon clothing - try neon accessories like some fun bangle bracelets!
Biker and Punk
Say goodbye to military for the time being and say hello to the new biker and punk styles for 2011! When we use the word “biker”, we’re not suggesting you have to look like you ride a motorcycle and wear head to toe leather! Channel the biker look with faux leather, stud detailing, motorcycle style boots and cool graphic t-shirts. Try a studded black bangle bracelet and earrings! Punk style is all about skinny black jeans, funky style t-shirts, Doc Marten style boots and messy, undone hair!
