Every episode of season two has been leading up to this week’s episode. Set within a masquerade party at the Lockwood estate, the episode was held together by one masterful plan. Almost every major character on the show joined together to fight Katherine. Stefan, Damon, Jeremy, Alaric, Bonnie and Caroline set up a complicated plan to kill Katherine at the masquerade party and restore peace to Mystic Falls.

Finally, something goes right for the good guys and everything goes according to plan – well, almost. Bonnie casts a spell on Katherine, locking her in a room with Stefan and Damon. The Salvatore brothers start to take out their anger on Katherine, but not before Elena realizes a spell has been cast on her, resulting in her feeling everything that happens to Katherine.

Bonnie senses another witch is in on the plan, and tracks down Katherine’s friend Lucy, who happens to be a distant relative. Lucy feels a sense of loyalty towards Bonnie and teams up with her to help take Katherine down. Once Lucy’s spell has been broken, Stefan and Damon are free to do with Katherine as they wish. But, in one final twist, instead of killing her, they seal her in the tomb with the moonstone, where she should have been all along.

Who’s Afraid of the Wolf?

To make things more interesting, Tyler finally succumbs to the Lockwood curse. After Matt fails to follow Katherine’s orders to antagonize Tyler, their friend Sara steps in to seal his fate. With a slight flick of the wrist, Tyler knocks Sara onto the corner of the desk, instantly killing her. Best of all, Caroline is there to see the whole situation, and her and Tyler finally come to understand the secrets the other has been hiding. The episode ends with Katherine warning Damon that Elena is in trouble, just in time to witness her being kidnapped by a masked man.

Next week, Damon and Stefan come to Elena’s rescue and Bonnie and Jeremy start to develop a close friendship. Stay tuned for more Vampire Diaries.
