This week we are taking a look at Tiger Woods and why his golf game is sinking like a tiger in quick sand. Also who is the hottest team in the National League? And finally, did you know that Ilya Kovalchuk was offered a 17-year contract with the New Jersey Devils? Find out why the NHL rejected it and what’s going to happen now in “This week in Sports” .
Sunny Days in San Diego
The San Diego Padres are the best team in the National league with a record of 67-46… are they the best-kept secret in baseball. The padres really don’t get the attention like big city teams. The Yankees and Red Sox are always in the headlines in the East, while the Dodgers seem to have the hearts of everyone in the West. But what about those Padres???
Time and time again, pitching seems to win the World Series and right now the Padres have the best pitching in the League. With a combined 2.72 Earned Run Average, the padres pitching staff has the best stats amongst all pitchers on the team.
The big question is… do the Padres have a pitcher that can close those big 9th inning playoff games? Their relief pitchers are all kind of unknown guys. Will they be able to keep up their surprising performances as the games become more important? Will the Padres ever win a World Series?
Trauma for Tiger
Last week, Tiger Woods played his worst game of golf ever and everyone was talking about him needing a psychologist. Tiger shot a horrible 18-Over-Par in four rounds of golf at the Bridgestone Invitational leaving Tiger-fans guessing whether he is suffering mentally as his career is plummeting to the bottom since he was caught cheating on his wife.
This week is better for Tiger as he is only 4 strokes behind the leaders Matt Kuchar at the PGA Championship. Tiger will be teeing off tonight at 6:45 pm EST to play his 2nd round. He’ll be most likely be the center of attention as he is still the fans’ favorite.
A Devil’s Dilemna
If you haven’t heard about the biggest news in the NHL, Ilya Kovalchuk has turned into the Lebron James of hockey. He was offered a 17-year contract for over 100 million dollars to stay in New Jersey. It was the biggest contract ever offered in the NHL and the league denied it. Why you ask?
Ilya is 27 years old so it’s pretty obvious that he won’t even be playing 17 more years. The Devils made him that contract so they could pay him more money than the NHL salary cap will allow them to… how devilsh!!!
Now a team from the KHL in Russia has offered Ilya the exact same contract as they do not have a salary cap. Will Ilya stay in the NHL or will he leave the NHL for more money? What do you think Ilya will do?
