Zac Efron sees ghosts and falls in love in his new movie Charlie St. Cloud. Kidzworld’s gives you the otherworldly run down in the Charlie St. Cloud movie review!

Zac Efron plays Charlie, a smart, fun-loving guy who’s on the fast track to success until his younger brother Sam is killed in a car accident. Charlie makes it through with a few scrapes and bruises, but the memory of his brother keeps Charlie from taking a sailing scholarship to Stanford. Instead Charlie stays in Quincy Harbor and works as a groundskeeper in the cemetery where Sam is buried.

Playing Catch With A Ghost

Charlie isolates himself from everyone. His only friends are a fellow groundskeeper…and his dead brother Sam! It turns out Charlie can see ghosts, one of which is his brother. Charlie had promised to always be there for Sam and now he spends every evening playing catch with him. Sam wasn’t able to pass on to the other side. He resisted going toward the light and is trapped in limbo between this world and the next.

Tess Trouble

Sam starts to feel sad when Charlie begins to spend more time with an old high school friend named Tess. As Charlie and Tess start to fall in love, Charlie realizes he might have to choose between his past and his future. Will he choose Tess or will he stay true to his brother’s memory forever?

The Bottom Line

Charlie St. Cloud is a classic tearjerker. If you like Nicholas Sparks movies like Dear John and A Walk To Remember, you’ll probably like this sentimental story. Zac Efron carries the movie well, but you’ll be paying less attention to his acting and more attention to his chiseled torso—he’s shirtless for practically half the movie! The love story is sweet, but the relationship between Charlie and Sam is much more interesting. Zac fans should see this one in the theater—everybody else can wait for the DVD release.
