Two of the biggest legendary names in hockey history are squaring up in the NHL finals. The Chicago Blackhawks are a huge favorite, but the Philadelphia Flyers have an amazing Cinderella story that might boost them all the way to victory. Both teams are full of new emerging superstars so the series should be exciting!
Stanley Cup Jinx
One amazing fact about the last 3 Stanley Cups is that Chicago Blackhawk superstar forward Marian Hossa has played in all 3 Finals with three different teams. That’s awesome for him! There’s only one problem... he hasn’t won the Stanley Cup yet!!! Some people say that Marian is an amazing player, but he’s kind of a jinx to win the whole thing. Yikes for Chicago!
The Cinderella Story
For the majority of the 2009-10 NHL regular season, the Philadelphia Flyers were not even in a position to make the playoffs. It wasn’t until after the Olympic break, that the team went on a huge winning streak and had a chance to go for one of the last spots. In the very last game of the season, the Flyers played the New York Rangers in a dramatic winner-takes-the-last-playoff-spot game. To make things even more exciting… the game went to a shootout.
Power Players
Most of the superstars that will be playing in the Stanley Cup Finals have not yet been to the Stanley Cup finals. Patrick Kane and Jonathon Toews are two of the sharpest-shooting snipers in the league and it will be both their chance in their very young careers. On the other hand, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter are now entering their veteran status and it will be their first shot at the cup as well. All of these superstars will be hungry for victory as they know some players never get a chance to play for the cup.
Both teams have dominated in their last playoff series. The Blackhawks swept the Sharks in 4 games and the Flyers flew past the Canadians with ease. It should be a great series. Let us know who you think will win in the comments below…
